| ABOUT TOM Tom Fremantle is a writer and public speaker, who also dabbles in English teaching and shepherding. His first book, Johnny Ginger‘s Last Ride, about a bicycle ride between Swanbourne, England and Swanbourne, Australia was published by Macmillan in 2000. It is now a bestseller, well, at least in parts of rural Buckinghamshire. Since then he has walked 2700 miles from Mexico to Manhattan, accompanied by a cantankerous but heroic 17-year-old pack mule. His book about the journey, The Moonshine Mule, was published by Constable and Robinson in 2003. His latest book, The Road to Timbuktu, centres on a journey down the River Niger in West Africa, following in the trail blazing footsteps of the explorer Mungo Park. A delightful and well informed travelogue wrote Benedict Allen in The Independent, selecting The Road to Timbuktu as one of his books of the year. Back to top |
